Riders:

Our web page has undergone a complete overhaul. If you haven’t seen it lately, take a look at:

4 brand new picnic tables have been delivered to the Legion Ball Park thanks to the Solon Riders.

The entire ball park has had a face lift, and these new picnic tables were part of that.

We will award the 2nd annual Solon Legion Riders $500.00 scholarship, at the awards night on May 17th. The lucky winner has no idea they have won this, so it should be a nice surprise to them, that evening.

Our Poker Run is scheduled for May 7th. This is the Solon Riders largest fund raiser of the year. You don’t have to be a member of the Legion Riders to participate in this ride, so if you own a motorcycle, and would like to go, you’re more than welcome. We will leave The Legion in Solon at 9:00 A.M.

The Coralville Legion Riders are having their poker run, the following week, May 14th, and our Legion is one of their stops. Let’s make them feel welcome, and support their ride with as many Solon members as we can get to ride along and participate in their ride.

Solon Riders first aid kits are still available at The Legion. They only cost $6.00 each, and as some of us have found out, they are a handy item to have in your saddle bag, on a ride.

New Solon Riders t-shirts are on the way. We will have a VERY LIMITED supply of these, so if you’re interested in getting one, don’t wait.

NAM VETS Of AMERICA Post 001, Solon

Shrimp nites are drawing to a close. April 25th will be our LAST shrimp night. Little interest, and very small support over the last month, or two, has brought this to an end.

What is YOUR idea, to keep your Legion open on Mondays? We’d like your input. Contact John Scott, or Curt with any ideas you may have.

When our Legion has a function, whether it is a fish dinner, Kettle fried chicken, shrimp, a breakfast, or what ever it may be, with over 600 members of the Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of The American Legion, and Riders when only 150-200 people show up to support these functions that, is a shame. These functions are what fuel the Legion to help the community, with The Memorial, the Library, The Boy Scouts, the City, and on and on. I think what we should ALL, consider it to be our duty, to either help, or support EVERY ONE of these functions at The Legion. When you support your legion, you are supporting the Community you live in.

AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS:

Riders: The February meeting was canceled, due to weather, however we are in the process of choosing our Solon High school graduate for the Legion Riders $500.00 scholarship for 2011.
We had a nice letter thanking us for our “Secret Santa” project this Christmas. We made 2 little girls, and 2 little boys very happy on Christmas morning with gifts from “Santa”, who otherwise would have had very little. Let’s be grateful for what we have, and share with those who are in need.
More work is being done to update our website. It should be a real eye popper when it is complete.
Nam Vets of America:
The Solon chapter of the NVA has fixed the big screen high def TV in the Legion. You may notice that the picture is the best it’s ever been. These are the same people who are responsible for the Super Bowl Party fund raiser for the Legion, and also the Shrimp Night fund raisers for the Legion. You can expect more Legion support, and fund raisers, from this chapter of the NVA in Solon.
Remember when you support these fund raisers, you support YOUR Legion, and in turn, support YOUR community.

2010 Poker Run News

The poker run on the 15th went great!  Over 100 people participated and it was a great day for a ride.  It started a bit cool and overcast but the sun came out and it warmed up nice.
It was a 200 mile route and everyone had a great time.
A few shots along the way.  Click on them twice to enlarge.
